Playlin'sGuide
Close Hue is a daily color guessing game where your mission is to match a color name to its actual shade as accurately as possible across five colors in a single round.
Each day, you're given five color names like "wisteria," "chartreuse," or "vermillion." Your job? Use a color picker to select what you think each one looks like. The game then scores you on perceptual accuracy, measuring how close your guess was to the true shade.
- You get 5 color names per puzzle.
- Use the color picker to select your best guess for each shade.
- Submit and get scored on how close you were, measured in perceptual distance.
- Lower scores are better. Precision wins.
- A new set of five colors drops every day.
The scoring system measures perceptual difference, not just RGB values, so a near miss on a tricky hue like "periwinkle" won't wreck your total.
Why we like it:
- β It reveals how little most of us actually know about named colors.
- β The scoring system rewards genuine color knowledge, not lucky clicks.
- β Quick enough to finish in under two minutes but humbling enough to remember.
Hint: If you're stuck on an unfamiliar name, break it down by category. Florals like "wisteria" skew purple or pink. Gemstones lean saturated. Food names are often earthy or warm.
