Jimothy is a free 8-bit NES tribute game starring Seattle's viral short-spined raccoon, where you hobble through four missions pulled from his real life: raiding trash cans, crossing Ballard streets, sneaking past paparazzi, and climbing to your den.
Built in the style of a late-1980s cartridge, complete with chiptune soundtrack and pixel art charm, Jimothy captures the nocturnal scramble of a neighborhood icon. Each mission has its own mechanics, music, and high score. Clear all four to unlock the ending.
How to play:
- Move with arrow keys or the on-screen D-pad.
- A button (Z, Space, or tap) to rummage bins and confirm menus.
- B button (X, Shift, or tap) to hop over obstacles.
- Start (Enter) begins a mission or pauses mid-game.
- You get 3 lives per mission.
- Choose between Basic and Advanced difficulty in settings. Advanced is faster, tighter, and tracks separate high scores.
The four missions:
1. Trash Night: Side-scrolling bin raid. Rummage for food before the garbage truck arrives. Hop over patrolling dogs and avoid raccoon-proof latched lids.
2. Get Across Easy Street: Frogger-style street crossing. Navigate five randomized blocks of traffic, yards, and sprinklers to reach the park.
3. Paparazzi: Top-down stealth. Reach the hedge without being photographed three times. Stand still to disappear into the darkness.
4. The Big Climb: Vertical platformer. Climb crumbling ledges and trellises to the den while dodging an angry crow.
Why we like it:
- β Authentic NES feel with live-generated chiptune audio and tight retro controls.
- β Four distinct mission types keep the gameplay varied and replayable.
- β Built with genuine affection for a real animal and a thoughtful conservation message.
Hint: In Paparazzi, resist the urge to keep moving. Freezing in place makes you nearly invisible, and patience beats speed every time.
