SPAN is a daily word game that throws out the Wordle template in one crucial way: you have no idea how long the answer is when you start.

You get 7 guesses to find a mystery word that could be anywhere from 4 to 9 letters long. Letter feedback works exactly like Wordle. Green means right letter, right spot. Gold means the letter is in the word but wrong spot. Grey means not in the word at all.

The twist is the length clue. You'll see a gold dot appear only when your guess is exactly one letter off the true length. If your guess is the right length, no dot. If you're two or more letters away, no dot. That single indicator is all you get to triangulate the target.
