Subwords is a daily word hunt on a 5×5 grid where you trace paths between letters to build words, rack up points from tile values and multipliers, and climb toward 5 stars.
Your goal isn't to find one correct answer. It's to squeeze as many points as possible from the hundreds of words hidden in the grid. Each tile carries a point value, and some tiles multiply your whole word score. The longer your word and the more multipliers you cross, the higher you climb.
- Trace a path from letter to letter. Diagonals count, so each tile has up to eight neighbors.
- Every letter in your path must touch the previous one. No tile can be used twice in the same word.
- Words must be at least 3 letters long and recognized by the word list. No proper nouns or abbreviations.
- Tile values add up first, then every multiplier on your path multiplies the total. A 2× and a 3× together make a 6× word.
- If a word can be traced multiple ways, you always get the highest score, no matter which route you drew.
- Keep finding words until you hit the fifth star. That finishes the puzzle.
A new grid drops every morning with fresh tile layouts and score targets.
Why we like it:
- ✅The scoring system rewards clever pathing, not just vocabulary size.
- ✅There's always one more word hiding in the grid, which makes it very replayable.
- ✅Chaining multipliers for a massive score feels like cracking a safe.
Hint: Hunt down the 5× tile first and read the letters around it. Your biggest scores come from long words that pass through high multipliers, so plan your route before you start tracing.
