Chain the start word to the end word by filling each slot with a word formed by one of four move types, used exactly once.
Playlin'sGuide
Twixtle is a daily word puzzle where your mission is to transform a start word into an end word in exactly four moves, using four different transformation types: anagram, verb, homophone, and compound.
Each puzzle gives you two words and four blank slots between them. Your job is to chain the start to the finish using each move type exactly once, in any order you choose.
- Anagram: Rearrange all letters into a different word (e.g., heart to earth).
- Verb: Switch to another form of the same verb (e.g., walk to walked or writing).
- Homophone: Swap to a word that sounds the same but is spelled differently (e.g., sea to see).
- Compound: Jump to a word that forms a closed compound with the current one (e.g., sea to horse via seahorse).
The catch? Every puzzle starts in Perfect mode, where the four move types are hidden. You figure out which slot needs which transformation. Stuck? Tap a hidden slot to reveal its type, but that drops you out of Perfect.
A new puzzle drops every day at your local midnight.
Why we like it:
- ✅The four move types create a satisfying linguistic puzzle that rewards lateral thinking.
- ✅Perfect mode adds real challenge without punishing you for peeking when stuck.
- ✅Short enough to solve in minutes, but tricky enough to make you feel clever.
Hint: Start by scanning for obvious homophones or compound words. Those tend to be the most constrained moves, so locking them in early narrows your path fast.
