Objective

Listen to a looping film score, unmute extra layers for clues, and guess the movie.

Playlin'sGuide

Underscore is a daily film score game from Smashcut Games where your mission is to name a movie from a looping piece of its music.

Each puzzle starts with a single track from a film's score playing on repeat. That might be just a bassline, a lone melody, or a quiet bed of strings. Unmute more layers of the same cue to hear the full arrangement come together, but the more help you take, the less you score.

  • Start the loop and listen closely to the first track.
  • Unmute extra tracks only when you need more clues.
  • Guess the film title when you think you know it.
  • The round ends when you name the film or run out of guesses.

Why we like it:

  • βœ…Hearing a score build layer by layer is a fun twist on the usual movie quiz.
  • βœ…It rewards film fans who remember how a movie sounded, not just how it looked.
  • βœ…Choosing when to unmute another track adds a little risk to every round.

Hint: Listen for instrumentation and mood before you try to name the tune. A brass fanfare, a synth pulse, or a solo piano narrows the genre and era faster than you would expect.
