Anthropeum

Anthropeum is a daily geography and history challenge that tests your knowledge of human cultures across 5,000 years and 500,000 artifacts from the Met's collection. Your mission: guess where and when each of 10 objects was made.

Each round shows you a single artifact. A ceramic bowl. A bronze dagger. A woven textile. You drop a pin on the world map where you think it was made, then select a time period. Points are awarded based on how close you get on both geography and chronology. Miss by a few hundred miles and a century? Not bad. Off by a continent and a millennium? You'll know.

After all 10 rounds, you see your total score plotted on a distribution curve against everyone else who played that day.

Hint: Start broad. Identify the material, the decoration style, and the function before committing to a pin. A glazed pot with geometric patterns points you in a very different direction than rough fired clay with organic motifs.
