Long Story Short is a daily word game where your mission is to cut a sentence down to exactly five of its own words while keeping the full meaning intact. You have 5 guesses to find the perfect headline.
Each day brings a new sentence, usually a full news story or interesting fact. Your job is to distill it into its essential five words, preserving who did what without losing any key details. Tap words to build your answer, then submit your guess.
- You must use exactly 5 words from the original sentence.
- Each guess shows which words are in the right spot, in the answer but wrong spot, or not in it at all.
- You have 5 tries to nail the combination.
- The goal is to keep the core event intact. Descriptors, feelings, and context words usually get cut unless they are the event itself.
- A new sentence drops every day.
Why we like it:
- ✅It's a sharp editorial exercise disguised as a word puzzle.
- ✅The feedback system nudges you toward the logic of concise writing.
- ✅Even wrong guesses teach you what matters most in a sentence.
Hint: Focus on who did what first. Names, actions, and key nouns almost always stay. Modifiers and color commentary are usually the first to go unless the descriptor is the whole point of the story.
