Chess Takes is a daily chess puzzle where your mission is to capture pieces until only one remains on the board using standard chess movements.
You start with a small board populated by a handful of chess pieces. Each piece moves according to traditional chess rules, but the goal is elimination, not checkmate. Click a piece, then click its target. One by one, pieces disappear until a single survivor remains.
- Any piece can capture any other piece using its standard chess movement.
- Click a piece to select it, then click the piece you want to capture.
- Continue capturing until only one piece is left on the board.
- Each puzzle has a par score showing the optimal number of moves.
- Six different puzzles drop every day.
Why we like it:
- β Scratches the chess itch without requiring a full match or opponent.
- β Par scoring adds a gentle challenge once you know the solution works.
- β Teaches you to see the board spatially, piece by piece.
Hint: Work backwards. Identify which piece should be the last one standing, then figure out the order of captures that gets you there. Corner pieces and those with limited mobility often hold the key.
