Playlin'sGuide
Umbra is a daily logic puzzle where your mission is to divide a grid into separate fields of purple and green, using numbered clues to figure out exactly how large each region should be.
You start with a partially colored grid. Some cells are already filled and carry a number. Those are givens: you can't change them. Your job is to color the rest of the board so that every field (a connected group of cells in one color) contains exactly one given, and that given's number tells you how many cells the field covers.
How it works:
A field is made of touching cells of the same color. Diagonal contact doesn't count, only shared edges. Each field must contain exactly one numbered given, and that number is the field's size. Two fields of the same color can never share an edge, though corners are fine.
Some givens are marked with a ? instead of a number. These work the same way, but you have to deduce the size from context. No field ever exceeds six cells, which keeps the possibilities manageable.
Tap an empty cell to cycle through light, shadow, and blank. Drag to paint longer runs in one pass. A number fades when its field reaches the right size, though that doesn't guarantee the shape is correct yet.
Why we like it:
- ✅The fading numbers give you real time feedback without spoiling the solve.
- ✅Question mark clues add a clever extra layer without overcomplicating the rules.
- ✅Clean, minimal interface that gets out of the way and lets you think.
Hint: Start with the largest numbers. A 6 or 5 has very few ways it can fit, especially if it's already colored and locked in place. Once the big fields are settled, the smaller ones fall into line.
